What do you like most?
For us, the equipment tracking feature is worth its weight in gold. Tools used to get left behind or go missing between building sites, but now we can see exactly where everything is. The logbook updates automatically, so the lads don’t have to enter anything manually, and I can see where the vehicles are when a customer asks when we’ll be arriving. It’s easy to get started, and the app is straightforward to use on the go.
What do you like least?
The Bluetooth chips on the smallest device update their position slightly more slowly than the GPS tracking on the cars. That makes sense from a technical point of view, but I had to understand the difference first.
What business-critical problems do you feel ECIT Autogear solves?
We no longer waste time and money on tools that go missing, and our logbook is in order without any hassle. I spend less time coordinating where people and vehicles are, and more time on the actual work.

What do you like most?
The fact that the same GPS system handles several requirements at once. We use Autogear to track machine hours and the location of equipment on site, and we also have a logbook and journey history for the machines travelling on public roads. We always know where everything is and how many hours each machine has been in operation – AND we avoid the never-ending search for equipment that has ‘gone missing’ and ended up on the wrong project.
What do you like least?
We had to spend a bit of time getting to grips with how the various subscriptions work together at the start. Support helped us get going quickly, but a simple overview from day one would have been nice.
What business-critical problems do you feel ECIT Autogear solves?
Control over machinery and equipment across projects, with maintenance and servicing based on actual operating hours rather than guesswork, and documented mileage for machinery used on public roads. We save time, avoid equipment being left idle, and always have a clear overview.

Frequently asked questions about ECIT Autogear
Overview
ECIT Autogear is an electronic logbook and fleet management system for Norwegian businesses – in the same category as ABAX, Automile and GSFleet – not an accounting or ERP system. At its core is a GPS-based logbook that meets the Norwegian Tax Administration’s requirements (Tax Regulations §5-12-3), enhanced with real-time fleet mapping, equipment tracking, machine hours, project management and ESG reporting – and with payroll integration with Tripletex, Visma .net Expense, PowerOffice Go, Nettlønn and Smartdok.
Autogear is used to automatically log journeys, track the location of vehicles and equipment, and send mileage allowances directly to payroll. A typical workflow: the GPS automatically records each journey; the driver confirms whether it is a work or private journey with a single tap in the Driver app; the journey is linked to the correct project, and approved journeys are exported to Tripletex, Visma, PowerOffice Go, Nettlønn or Smartdok as the basis for payroll.
Function & Usage
Autogear runs in the web browser (app.autogear.com) and in the Autogear Driver and Locator apps for iOS and Android. Users log in using their email address and two-step verification. Data is collected automatically: a GPS device is plugged into the OBD port or permanently fitted, and records the date, time, start and end addresses, toll gate passages, vehicle and driver. The driver confirms the purpose of the journey in the app; the administrator can view everything in the portfolio.
With Autogear, you can generate a logbook report that meets the Norwegian Tax Administration’s requirements (PDF, Excel, CSV), submit mileage allowances for payroll processing via Tripletex, Visma .net Expense or PowerOffice Go, generate an audit-ready ESG report (Scope 1 and 3), create machine-hour reports for condition-based maintenance, link mileage and hours to projects as a basis for invoicing, and view all vehicles and equipment in real time on a single map.
Autogear is used by over 5,500 Norwegian companies (as of 2026), typically with between 5 and 500 vehicles. Those who work with the system on a daily basis include operations managers, fleet managers, project managers, and payroll and finance staff. The most common sectors are construction, plumbing and trades, and transport and logistics. Sole traders with a single vehicle often opt for a simpler solution; very large heavy-haul fleets have their own specific requirements.
Pricing
Autogear starts at NOK 99 per month (excl. VAT) for Basic – a semi-automatic logbook for private cars used for work. Premium (full GPS, recommended price NOK 215) and Business (NOK 279, incl. ESG and payroll integration) offer more. The GPS hardware is included in the hire agreement at no one-off cost. Add-ons are available for driver ID and equipment tracking. The final price is set out in the quotation and depends on the contract period (12/24/36 months) and volume.
No. Autogear does not have a permanent free version, but offers a no-obligation demo where you can see how the solution works for your specific needs before you make a decision. The GPS hardware is included in the loan agreement subscription.
Evaluation
Autogear is best suited to Norwegian businesses with 5–500 vehicles that wish to consolidate logbooks, fleet management, equipment, machine hours and ESG data into a single Norwegian system with support in their native language. Its greatest strength is its breadth: you avoid having to use several separate tools, and data is shared across the system. It is less suitable for pure heavy goods vehicle fleets that primarily require tachograph and driving/rest time data, or for sole traders with just one vehicle.
Most businesses are up and running on the same day. The OBD unit can be plugged in in under ten minutes without the need for an electrician (plug & play), and drivers can get started as soon as they have downloaded the Driver app and confirmed their first journey. The administrator setup – privacy levels, approval workflows and payroll integration – typically takes a few hours. The reporting and ESG module has a slightly steeper learning curve and benefits from having an in-house superuser.
Data is primarily stored within the EU/EEA (AWS, Dublin), and a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is entered into with all customers. Access is role-based – only account owners, administrators and managers can view vehicles in real time – and the apps feature two-factor authentication and biometrics (Face ID/fingerprint). Privacy is built in through four levels, with employees themselves controlling visibility; at the ‘Strict’ and ‘Maximum’ levels, private journeys are hidden from the employer.
